Stu is thought to be by many to the greatest No Limit Texas hold’em Poker player ever.

The 3 time World Poker Champion was born in New York in ‘53 and began betting poker before becomming a teenager.

The young gambler began wagering gin and at the age of ten had won his very first gin tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the age of fourteen the little poker maestro had become a professional and dropped out of school.

In 1954 Stu Ungar entered the history books by succeeding ten thousand dollars in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.

The fast speaking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu had a real talent for playing poker except regardless of his achievements in Hold’em poker, he favored wagering gin.

Stu once said that there may a number of day be a far better NL Texas hold em player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a greater gin gambler.

In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the very best Texas hold em Poker players in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Amazingly it was the very first time he had played in the tournament.

The following year he put aside any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by effectively protecting his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker legend also struggled with substance abuse and a year right after succeeding his third title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had passed away from cardiac arrest which was brought on by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started with nothing but his skill and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker fantastic a millionaire numerous times over.
