Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
