Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
