Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
