Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
