Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
