Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
