Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
