Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
