Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
