Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
