Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
