Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
