Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
