Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
