Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
