Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
