Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
