Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
