Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
