Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
