Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
