Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
