Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
