Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
