Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
