Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
