Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
