Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
