Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
