Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
