Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
