Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
