Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
