Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
